Jacob Fearnley forced to retire injured against Arthur Fery in Vienna as Harriet Dart keeps her winning streak alive

Arthur Fery is through to the second round of the Vienna Open after fellow Briton Jacob Fearnley retired with an injury in the first set, with Fery leading 5-1.

Fearnley was broken by Fery in just his second service game. Fery then won the next two games in a row and appeared set to win the opening set comprehensively. Fearnley then ended the contest, shaking the umpire’s hand and retiring with an unspecified injury, which allowed Fery to advance.

Fery will face the winner of No 6 seed Francis Tiafoe and Lorenzo Musetti in the second round. Fery lost to Musetti in straight sets at the US Open.
